Data Rescue 3 External Drive Recovery App Reviews

Amazingly this app is still on the store, despite not working with the latest OS. It has not worked for many months. I used it in the past with great results, but it has been useless for almost a year. I’m going to reach out to Apple’s customer support, but it really seems like this product should not be on the store if it’s not compatible with their latest OS.

i just bought this app because i tried the demo and didn’t realize that the version available on the app store didnt work with my current operating system. if that was the case why do they still have it on the store

Despite numerous comments saying so, the description says it supports external drives. I bought it after reading this reassurance. It is simply not true.

Does not support any of the latest versions or internal drives, what is the point of this, take it off the App store already waste of money.

Does not even see my drives - neither my Mac Hard Disk nor attached WD My Passport. Trying out other tools - haven’t yet be able find deleted files, but at least they are able see my disks and scan them. Total waste of my time and money.

Spent the big bucks for this program because I didn’t want to lose family videos that I had just backed up to a newly purchased hard drive that failed. While in the middle of the project extracting and sorting the files (which were duplicated and triplicated upon recovery) I updated the OS on my machine. When I originally purchased this software, the description says that it’s COMPATIBILITY is 10.6.6 or later. However, they later added block letters retracting this and stating that it’s NOT compatible with 10.8 and higher. I emailed the company and received the answer that I can either take up the refund with the App Store or SPEND MORE MONEY purchasing the next compatible version. They must know that people are stuck.

I accidently deleted severla months worth of photos from my portable hard drive. I downloaded this program to try to use it to recover it but this program doesn’t even recognize my USB3 external hard drive. The drive works, Disk Util detects it and can verify the disk. The disk mounts, i see it in /Volumes/ yet the program can’t see the diesk. WASTE OF MONEY!

I purchased this program to attempt to recover an external drive. The program would NOT show the drive, so I decided to see if it would even show one of my good drives. I connected two different known good external drives and they too failed to even show up on the Data Rescue 3 recovery screen. If you have extra money that you want to throw away, buy this program.

I ran it and it didn’t discover any external OR internal drives. The drives show up fine, other software recognizes them, but this doesn’t see them. Waste of $60, DO NOT BUY!

We’ve used this software for various drives (mechanical, solid state, SD cards, etc) and sometimes it works perfectly, while others not so much. I would say it is about a 30-40% recovery rate. That may sound low, but when you consider your drive is probably never going to work again, 30-40% is ok. There is a newer version on their website, but I just keep an old Snow Leopard machine around for this software.
