Data Rescue 3 External Drive Recovery App Reviews

Not for Pages documents

I was advised by a computer technician at the Apple store to buy this program to recover my lost documents from Pages. However, this program does not work for recovery of Pages documents. Unfortunately, the research I did on my own and with my brothers help related that Pages documents information are saved in multiple disparate files, so there is not a single recovery program available currently that has any reported success knowing they are linked to recover the document.

This product it horrible!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Error codes everyitme I try to scan a SD Card. I could have purchased a ton of phone apps instead of this useless recovery tool.

Digging deeper, great product and support!!

I read the recent reviews of this product and was turned off because it didnt seem to be working for many people. I looked into other products and it seems that they all have issues with Mountain Lion… So I called up Prosoft (they were the only ones based in the United States, so I could speak to a support person on the phone). It turns out their Mac App Store version (and other competing products) wont run under Mountain Lion due to App Store rules/changes.. It works fine under Lion and their full version works fine under any OS.. So Im guessing thats the big misunderstanding. If youre running Mountain Lion, just get the full version- Support was very helpful which is a godsend in a crisis-

Wont identify drives on MBP 15 Retina

I used this very successfully on my previous laptop (MBA 11 i7) but on my new MBP 15 Retina, it will not recognize any of my 5 external hard drives. The same drives were recognized on my MBA. When it works, its great but it seems to depend on what type of Mac you have.

DOES NOT WORK!

just purchased. doesnt work. want a refund.

No recovery apps work Mountain Lion-

After much investigation, it turns out no apps here on the app store will work with Mountain Lion (something changed in Mountain Lion and these apps are not allowed to have the needed code to work under Mountain Lion). So if you have Mountain Lion, go to the compant website of the product directly (the full versions are not bound by App Store rules and therefore dont have any issues). Prosoft is based in California (not China like most of these others) and that makes dealing with support a million times better-

Rip Off

I purchased this item for 59.99, in hopes of recovering an external hard drive I had deleted files on. The drive itself was recognized by Disk Utility and appeared alongside my regular hard drive. I was excited because I had used Data Rescue 2 previously. Unfortunately, this version of the software did not read my drive, no matter what I did. I could save files to the drive, I could browse it, I could do everything through OSX, but Data Rescue basically said, "Nope, its not there!" over and over. The Help Section was completely unhelpful - it suggested rescanning and the drive never showed up. How is it I can save files to the drive through OSX, see it on my desktop, but Data Rescue refuses to see it? COMPLETE RIP-OFF.

Outdated. This old verson (2011) not compatable with Mountain Lion.

Here is your warning and here is my tale… I needed this product because i had an emergency and needed something fast… A photo was deleted from my SD card that was very important. App Store to the rescue…I thought, because the purpose of the app store is speed and simplicity. Upon installation, the app did not work. So I called support. I was told that the app does not work with Mountain Lion. This is disclosed in the description of the product, which I did not read thoroughly because I was in a hurry to recover my lost photo. They inform me that the full (working) version cost $99 and is not available in the app store, while the old (non-working) version is available here, in the app store, for $59. But I can upgrade to the full version for $39. OK. I found this experience to be anything like simple. I dont get the purpose of having an app in the app store that does not work with the latest OS. Mountain Lion has been out for a long time. This app has not been updated for over a year and 4 months. Mountain Lion has been out for 9 months. Hmm The tech support staff were pleasant and friendly. And Data Rescue 3 (full, newer version) 3.2.2, $99 only at their web site, works really well. 5 Stars

Total waste of money and time.

Doesnt recognize ANY drives. Connected 14 different working drives after I tried the one drive I needed it Rescue and application didnt recognize a single drive. The workinf drives all appeared in the finder but Data Rescue couldnt. Dont bother. I couldnt even get tothe rescue part of the software.

Not compatible with OSX 10.8.3

It doesnt say this in the FAQ, but if youre running Mac OS X 10.8.3, none of your HD will show up. I dont think I should give it a low rating…because it says in the description that it wont work. I should have read more carefully. Thats my fault. But it didnt work…so well see how quickly a refund is issued, and Ill rate it based on that. Wouldnt you think it would make sense that the App Store should help the user and keep you from buying apps that wont work on your system? Just sayin…I made a simple mistake.

Does not work with 10.8

I somehow missed the fact that this does not work with OS 10.8 Mountain Lion Totally useless to me. Total waste of $60. :-{

DOES NOT WORK FOR MOUNTAIN LION or higher

… which it says in the vendor text, but not in the App Store requirements, which clearly state "OS X 10.6.6 or later" … which is where I always look to see if something is supported. Even the Apple Store person got sucked in by that one, when I drove to the local Apple Store to pick up a copy, only to find the disc media were no longer sold there (despite the web site stating they had it in stock). There is a upgrade to the full version from the vendor, but I do believe that the App Store ought not to download and install it to a system that it will not work on … but it does.

Doesn’t work in OS X 10.8

Doesn’t see any mounted drives whatsoever.

Doesnt recognize any HDDs

Doesnt recognize any HDDs

Does not see any USB 3 drives!!!!!!!!!

They failed to mention that this software will not see any new USB 3.0 connected hard drives. Was a total waste of money.

dont work

for me application dont work. Dont reconize any of my pendrive

It works, mostly

I have IMac Lion (version 10.7.5) as stated this program does not work for the new Mountain Lion version. Wifes camera did not show all the pictures she took for work. I was able to download this drawn down iMac version and scan the microSD ard on a flash drive conveyor. Could only do a deep scan but that is all i needed and was able to find the missing pictures. Saved my wife a whole days of work.

Application was a total waste of money!!!

I just bought this software with the hopes of repairing an external drive the OSX disc utility could not. I have two external drives connected to my laptop, Data Rescue doesnt recognize either of them, even though they appear in The OSX disc utitlity and one of the drives, I know is just fine. A prompt appears, "no image showing up, click here for more information" When you click you are directed to the Data Rescue website, where for a fee you can ship your hard drive to their facility to have it repaired. So Ive just spent $59ºº for a program that doesnt even recognize that external drives are connected to my computer, and Im told that, if my external drive is not visible, I should consider sending it to their state of the art facility to get it repaired. Even though one of the drives is just fine. I feel like I just got hustled and the company is playing upon my vulnerability. Why is this application on the App store. How do you get a refund?

garbage.

Downloaded the demo version from cnet just to try it out. It worked great, found my drives and clearly was finding the data I needed recovered. It can only recover 10MB in demo mode? No problem, I thought, If it works well I’ll just buy it, right? Wrong. After buying this, it completely stops working. Who ever heard of that? Software that stops working when you decide to pay for it? This software does not recognize any of my external disks and the only available links say my drive is physically busted which I know for a fact to be false. I know how a toasted drive acts. $60 wasted. I want a refund. This software is a scam. Totally unprofessional on prosoft’s behalf which is a shame because they used to make fantastic software. Whatever change of management there clearly was, the new guy is running the company into the ground, IMHO.

Doesn’t work At all

this program doesnt see even my good HDD’s and i tryed to call them i was on hold 10min and after that went to voicemail
